History

The history of Tółikan is a living tapestry of courage, woven by families who have answered the call across every generation. Our community is built on the strength of heroes like POW Ralph Begay, whose resilience in the face of adversity remains a testament to the Navajo spirit. We honor the families who gave deeply to our nation’s defense, including the three brothers who served together in the Persian Gulf, and the distinguished high-ranking officers who rose from our soil to lead with honor.

Our legacy of care and service even reached the frontlines of the Korean War, where women like the mother of our own Commander, Harris Benally, served bravely as a combat nurse. From the legendary Code Talkers to the modern-day veterans returning to our community, we stand on the shoulders of these giants. We honor their heritage by ensuring that every Navajo warrior is met with the recognition and support they earned.

Tółikan is the proud home of Navajo Code Talker Mr. David Jordan. Having lived and served within our community throughout his life, his legacy remains the heartbeat of our organization and our commitment to all Navajo veterans.
